Tech Tuesday: World Book Online

It's Tech Tuesday!

Today, I'm sharing a website that is already available to anyone using Fontana Unified SD computers.  World Book Online is an excellent research tool that provides different websites for the different grade level needs.

Where to find it?

World Book can be accessed on site from the Redwood Elementary School's website and from the library home page.  To sign on from home, use the Fontana Unifed School District's Student website.

What will you find?

Once on the World Book Online website, you will find several products, each tailored to function for the different learners in grades K-12:
Early World of Learning - For children ages preschool through grade 2, this resource provides things to read, watch, play and print or do (like coloring pages).  It provides dozens of beginning reader books to read and to be read to , and the option to print out readers for future use.
Kids! - The website uses images to engage young learners. There are interactive videos, games, and easy to read articles.  Interactive features include the World of Animals, Maps and more, Compare Places, and Science Projects.
Student - This database is useful for elementary and middle school age students looking for easy-to-read explanations of various topics.  This site also has great How to Do Research page that covers research, from the formation of a topic to the bibliography and citations.
Advanced - Is designed for middle school students and older, this database contains thousands of primary and multimedia resources.
Timelines - Users can explore important moments in sports, world history, science & technology, and more. You can also create your own timelines after registering and creating your own free account.
Discover - Is also for middle school students and older.  It is designed for reluctant readers, visual learners, and English language learners.
Enciclopedia Estudiantil Hallazgos - A Spanish language reference site for students ages kindergarten through 4th grades, or adults learning the Spanish language.

What I liked about World Book Online:

The content is not only easy to read and well organized, but it also is engaging and attractive to the different audiences. The website design and layout is colorful, and the photographs are sharp and vibrant.  The "World of Animals" for Kids content is especially easy to navigate, and a great tool for the first and second grade animal projects.  Another great feature is the ability to save research content by registering and creating a free account.

Take advantage of this great product purchased by FUSD for the district.  It is engaging enough for the reluctant reader, and substantial enough for the learned scholar.
